How to Recognize a Breakthrough Before It Happens

Most of us want breakthrough to look like fireworks.
A clear sign. An open door. Something dramatic.
But what if breakthrough starts in the small things?
What if God is already moving… we just haven’t noticed it yet?

? The God Who Moves Before We See It

In Isaiah 43:19, God says:

“See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?”

Sometimes the issue isn’t that God isn’t moving—it’s that we’re not perceiving what He’s already doing.
We’re so focused on the closed door, we miss the new thing growing quietly in the hallway.

? Clues That Breakthrough Is Near:

  • You’re feeling a new discomfort with old patterns
  • You’re suddenly more aware of your need for God
  • You’re seeing confirmations in Scripture or conversations
  • You’re more hungry for prayer than performance
  • You feel stretched—but not abandoned
These aren’t delays. These are contractions.
God is birthing something new.

? What Pastor Tony Taught Us Sunday:

Pastor Tony Portell reminded us that breakthrough often starts before the waters break.
  • It starts when we return to worship
  • When we stop trying to force it
  • When we get around the right people
  • When we remember the names of God—not just what we want Him to do
Sometimes the breakthrough isn’t the thing changing…
It’s you changing, so you can handle the thing when it does.

? Your Move Today:

  • Take 5 minutes to ask: “God, what are You already doing that I’m not seeing?”
  • Share a story of past breakthrough with your family, kids, or small group
  • Write down one thing God has already done—before you ask Him to do the next thing

✨ You’re Not Stuck. You’re Being Prepared.

At Vineyard Church Southern Indiana, we believe in the God of Breakthrough.
But we also believe in the process that shapes us in the waiting.
Come walk it with us.
