Palm Sunday

12 On the next day, when the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 they took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord, indeed, the King of Israel!” 14 Jesus, finding a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written: 15 “Do not fear, daughter of Zion; behold, your King is coming, seated on a donkey’s colt.” 16 These things His disciples did not understand at the first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of Him, and that they had done these things for Him. 17 So the people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead, continued to testify about Him. 18 For this reason also the people went to meet Him, because they heard that He had performed this sign. 19 So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are not accomplishing anything; look, the world has gone after Him!” -John 12:12-19

Have you ever considered your need for rescuing?

For the wages of sin is death, but the gracious gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. -Romans 6:23

Atonement: Reparation or repayment for sin

For He has rescued us to Himself from the dominion of darkness.

-Colossians 1:13

How Sin Affects Us:

-Sin leads us into bondage

-Sin bares fruit in our lives that we have to eat

-Sin affects our relationship with God

The Jewish people felt the burden of bondage as they were occupied by Roman rule.

Their response to Jesus was a response to bondage they were experiencing.

“…post Christianity attempts to move beyond Christianity, whilst simultaneously feting upon it’s fruit. Post-Christian culture attempts to retain the solace of faith, whilst gutting it of the costs, commitments, and restraints that the Gospel places on individual will.” Mark Sayers

We live in a culture that wants resurrection without crucifixion.

Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. -John 12:24
